How to Make a Custom Follower for Skyrim with the Creation Kit
Skyrim is a game that offers endless possibilities for modding and customization. One of the most popular ways to enhance your Skyrim experience is to create and add your own unique follower to the game. A follower is a character that can accompany you on your adventures, fight alongside you, carry your items, and even marry you. But how do you make a custom follower for Skyrim In this article, we will show you how to use the Creation Kit, a free tool that comes with Skyrim or Skyrim: Special Edition on Steam, to create and add your own unique follower to Skyrim.
Step 1: Getting Started
The first thing you need to do is to download and install the Creation Kit. You can find it in your Steam library under the Tools tab. Alternatively, you can download it from here: Creation Kit Download. Once you have installed the Creation Kit, launch it and open the Skyrim.esm file. This will load all the data from the base game.
Step 2: Name Your Follower
Now that you have loaded the Skyrim.esm file, you need to create a new actor for your follower. An actor is any character or creature in the game. To create a new actor, go to the Object Window on the left side of the screen and expand the Actors category. Then right-click on any subcategory and select New. This will open a new window where you can name your follower and assign basic traits such as race, gender, class, level, etc. For example, let's name our follower Bob and make him a male Nord warrior.
Step 3: Assign Basic Traits
In the same window where you named your follower, you can also assign basic traits such as race, gender, class, level, etc. These traits will affect your follower's appearance, skills, stats, and behavior. For example, let's make Bob a Nord warrior with a high level of health and stamina. You can also choose a voice type for your follower from the Voice Type dropdown menu. This will determine what kind of dialogue your follower will have in the game. For example, let's choose MaleNord for Bob.
Step 4: Give Your Follower a Voice
If you want your follower to have custom dialogue and voice lines, you will need to record your own voice or use existing voice files from the game or other mods. You will also need to create dialogue topics and conditions for your follower using the Dialogue View window. This is a complex and time-consuming process that requires some scripting knowledge and audio editing skills. Step 5: Set Your Follower's Stats
In the same window where you assigned basic traits for your follower, you can also set your follower's stats such as health, magicka, stamina, skills, perks, etc. These stats will affect your follower's combat performance and abilities in the game. For example, let's give Bob some high values for health and stamina, as well as some skills and perks related to combat such as One-Handed, Two-Handed, Heavy Armor, Block, etc.
Step 6: Set Your Faction
A faction is a group of actors that share common interests or goals in the game. For example, the Stormcloaks are a faction that wants to overthrow the Empire and make Skyrim independent. You can assign your follower to any existing faction or create your own faction using the Faction window. This will affect how your follower interacts with other actors in the game. For example, let's make Bob a member of the Companions faction so he will be friendly with other members of that faction.
Step 7: Can Your Follower Be Killed
By default, most followers in Skyrim are essential, meaning they cannot be killed by anyone except you. This is to prevent them from dying 061ffe29dd
